Erika Hock
Her work moves fluidly between sculpture, architecture and display, occasionally drawing on the Art Deco style or the Bauhaus era, for example by taking up and reinterpreting the often overlooked female perspectives of those periods.
Often resembling furniture, curtains, or partitions, her works reorganise the exhibition space and shape how the viewer moves through it. This relationship between body, object, and space is central to her practice. Combining the intimacy of the domestic with the theatricality of public display, her installations invite open-ended encounters marked by humour and play.
Solo exhibitions include Unfit at L21 Gallery, Barcelona; Female Fame at Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl; Hotel Atlantik at Kunsthalle Lingen; and What Bananas Say at Salzburger Kunstverein. Her work has also been presented at WIELS, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Es Baluard Museu, Kunstmuseum Bonn, and Museum Marta Herford.
A recipient of the Nam June Paik Young Talents Award and the NRW Award for Fine Arts, Hock has completed major public commissions such as Triadic in Melbourne. A new work for the Art Commission of the German Parliament will be completed in Berlin in 2027.
Her work is held in collections including the Federal Collection of Contemporary Art, Germany; Kunstmuseum Bonn; Kunstpalast Düsseldorf; and Es Baluard Museu.
