Beth Letain
Beth Letain (b. 1976 in Edmonton, CA) is interested in systems and procedure and draws upon a lexicon of minimalist geometric forms which reference circuitry, windows, portals, and trees—all points of transfer, duplication, and connection. While pursuing the minimal forms which preoccupy her, Letain embraces mistakes and uncertainty. The artist often includes the bare surface of the gessoed canvas as part of the image. The glowing white surfaces are carefully prepared, a deliberately long process which is contrasted by the fast, almost gestural execution of the formal shapes in oil paint.
Her recent solo exhibitions include Patrick De Brock Gallery, Knokke (2025 and 2020), Peres Projects, Berlin (2024) and Milan (2023); Leeahn Gallery, Daegu and Seoul (2022); Peres Projects, Berlin (2019 and 2017); and Pace Gallery, London (2018). She has participated in a number of group exhibitions, including the yellow light at 6 pm: Remembering, envisioning, sensing landscape, Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin (2023); Nothing in particular, Friedrichs Foundation, Weidingen (2021); x_minimal, Cassina Projects, Milan (2021); and An Action without Image, Kunstverein Reutlingen, Germany (2018), among others.
